FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Sending your child to a camp that is right for your child is an important decision. For that reason, we strongly recommend that you speak with someone you know who has sent a child to camp. Camp Howe does little, if any, advertising and it is through word of mouth that the camp has earned local and national awards and fills each summer.
We understand that you have many questions and welcome your phone calls to answer any questions that you may have. As a quick reference for answers to questions that you may have we have collated common questions with answers. The list is divided by topic with drop down answers. Please take your time to review all of the information.

"Now that we’re eight years into Camp Howe summers, we can certainly look back and say it’s been a vital part of our kids’ childhood. Perhaps the single most important investment we’ve made year after year to boost their confidence and independence."

What would you like to know about?
Registration is quick and easy! Camp Howe partners with CampDocs.com to provide a secure online registration system. You can complete your camper’s registration and make payments using either a credit card or a direct transfer from your bank account.
Registering online lets you know immediately if your child is accepted into your chosen program. The system guides you through all required forms, making it simple to complete and submit everything in one place.
Another great benefit is that your information carries over from year to year—so when you return, you’ll only need to review and update your details instead of starting from scratch.
If you’re unable to register online, please contact us, and we’ll be happy to assist you with the process.
Program fees vary based on the length and type of program. Sessions are offered in one- and two-week options. Please visit our Dates & Rates page for current pricing and our Programs page to learn more about each program.
Camp Howe offers both day camp and overnight camp experiences designed for different age groups:
Junior Camp – for pre-teens
Teen Camp – for older youth
Counselors in Training (CIT) – for 16- and 17-year-olds developing leadership skills
Echo Program – for campers who benefit from extra support to succeed
Campers who have completed 6th grade and are entering 7th grade are considered “in-between” ages and may register for either the Junior or Teen program, depending on what feels like the best fit emotionally and socially. We’re happy to discuss which option might be best—please call us to talk it through.
A nonrefundable deposit of $100 per week, per camper is required at the time of registration.
We accept registrations up until the Thursday before the start of camp as long as space is available. However, many of our programs—especially popular sessions—fill up early in the year, and most reach capacity as summer approaches. We strongly recommend registering early to secure your spot.
Each year, campers are admitted from our waitlist, so we encourage you to register even if your preferred session is currently full.
If the program you’d like is full, you can choose to be placed on a waitlist. If a space becomes available, we’ll contact you by phone or email to confirm your interest before enrolling your camper.
Each program accepts up to 10 campers on a waitlist. To help ensure your child can still experience Camp Howe this year, we recommend registering for an alternate session while remaining on the waitlist for your first choice. If a space opens in your preferred program, we’ll gladly transfer your camper and withdraw them from the other session.
Yes. If you register online, you’ll receive an immediate confirmation once your registration is complete.
If you register by mail, you’ll receive an email confirmation once your paperwork has been processed. We do not send confirmations by postal mail.
If we receive a mailed registration for a session that is already full, we’ll contact you by phone to see if you’d like to switch to another session or be placed on the waitlist.
Starting early in the new year, we also send monthly emails that highlight helpful topics for planning and preparing for camp—covering everything from packing tips to arrival details and program updates.
While we understand that camp serves many purposes for families, we also know that it can be an intense and tiring experience for campers. To ensure each child gets the most out of their time at camp, we do not allow campers to register for the entire summer.
In most cases, two consecutive weeks is ideal—providing enough time to grow, connect, and recharge without becoming overtired. Many campers sign up for two weeks, take a short break, and then return for another week or two later in the summer.
Campers may not register for more than four weeks total in one summer without first connecting with the Executive Director to discuss what is best for the camper’s overall experience.
Camp Howe is a seasonal site, opening each year in early May. Our official Open House is held in June, and all families are encouraged to attend. We understand this timing means some families may choose to register before visiting in order to avoid being placed on a waitlist. If you later visit camp and find that it isn’t what you’re looking for facility-wise, you may withdraw without penalty.
In accordance with Summer Camp License Regulations, you may request copies of our background check, health care, and discipline policies, as well as our procedures for filing grievances, at any time—both before and after registering.
When completing your camper paperwork through your online account, you’ll have the opportunity to list one friend request. Campers may make one mutual request for a friend who is approximately the same age and enrolled in the same session and program (Juniors or Teens).
We do our best to honor as many requests as possible, though they cannot always be guaranteed. Please remind your camper that one of the best parts of Camp Howe is the chance to make new friends and build connections with others.
