BARNEY

Waterfront Director

Cushendall Antrim, Ireland

Hi everyone. My name is Barney. I'm from a small town called Cushendall in County Antrim, Ireland. I am excited to be returning to Howe for my 5th summer. I have been life guarding for more than 10 years and love anything to do with water - swimming, kayaking, canoeing. You may even catch me doing water aerobics from time to time. Because of camp, I have learned to love travelling.  I am looking forward to return to a place that has given me so much and to give back. Camp has given me confidence and enthusiasm in life that I couldn't imagine and I am returning so I can make the positive influence camp has had on me onto others at camp. Camp has the ability to really make a positive influence on a camper’s life - not just in the short term but the long term. It has the ability to build confidence, self-esteem and many other attributes that allow people to grow. The positive influence of camp that it has made on people’s lives is amazing. It allows them to learn new skills at camp and transfer them into the world outside of camp.

BETHAN

Camp Mum

Wrexham, Wales

Hey all! I'm Bethan (from Wales) and I'm so super excited to be returning to camp Howe for my 5th year! I'll be joined by my husband (Darran) and 3 children, grace (13), Minnie (8) and Woody (5). I can't explain how excited I am for this opportunity for my family (they're pretty excited too). I'm a trained Behavioral therapist, currently specializing in sleep. My absolute favorite parts of camp are songs, campfire, evening program, the dance .......hhhhm, you get the picture. Camp Howe is home. Part of me stayed there after my first season, and I don't think it'll ever leave. I've had some of the most amazing times of my life there and some of the hardest, and have learnt lessons from both. Camp Howe challenges, encourages, exhausts, creates unbreakable bonds. I have chosen to apply to Camp Howe because it makes me strive to be better in every sense, I want my children to experience the magic of  Camp Howe.

KELSEA

Junior Director

Quincy, MA USA

Hello all, my names Kelsea. I'm originally from the greater Boston area (Melrose but no one has ever heard of that) and am currently living in Quincy which is just south of the city. I am also finishing up my BA in Psychology with a minor in German). This will be my 5th summer at camp, though I haven't been in some time. My time at camp was the foundation for my work with children and families. It put me on the trajectory I am currently on. Outside of my camp experience I have volunteered for half a year at Horizons for Homeless children, worked for a short time per diem in a youth residential home, and have been a nanny to 3 wonderful families over the past 6 years. I'm fortunate enough to have a free summer this year and I couldn't think of a better way to spend it than at camp. I am SO excited to see and experience all the changes at camp since I've been there, and maybe even bring back some old traditions, and of course meeting and working with you all and making this a summer to remember!

Hey guys. My name is Megan. This is my 10th year at camp and for the last five years I have worked at Camp Howe. It has given me camp experience with children that benefits my work knowledge. Hi all! My name is Nora and I am both originally from and currently live in Boston, Mass. This will be my 13th summer at Camp Howe, 6th on staff, and I am so excited to be taking on a new challenge as Teen Girls Unit Director this summer! Outside of camp, I work at a small bakery (if you’re ever in Boston and need good bread, hit me up!) and am doing anthropological research on images and representation of migrants. I know firsthand that a well-run camp can give children not only a few weeks of fun, but also the opportunity to develop new skills, form lasting friendships, gain exposure to cultures and people different from themselves, and have a place where they can feel safe and comfortable to be themselves, make mistakes, and grow as people. I believe strongly in the values of Camp Howe and the great potential we have for doing good in the lives of our campers. At its best, Camp Howe is a remarkable community of people respecting and learning from each other, and I want to both be a part of that and help to shape it. Looking forward to working with all of you to make 2019 the best summer yet!

There is a reason that our slogan is to 'make the best better'-- that's what we do. I honestly can't see myself working anywhere else. Camp Howe has done so much to nurture me, and encourage me to become the best version of myself that I can. See you all this summer!
