Darran

Director

Hello, my name is Darran and I will be your Director again this summer. This is my 4th summer at Camp Howe. In my other job I am a child protection Social Worker in Wales and have worked with children and young people for over 21 years in a number of capacities. My focus is on positive beneficial community building and experiential play. I look forward to speak to each of you and having the most amazing summer. I believe I can inspire positive change in staff to make Camp Howe an inspiring, magical, challenging and safe space for the campers to be themselves and grow in. I have chosen to return to Camp Howe as it embodies all that I hope to see in a community.

Barney

Assistant Director

Hi everyone. My name is Barney. I'm from a small town called Cushendall in County Antrim, Ireland. I am excited to be returning to Howe for my 5th summer. I have been life guarding for more than 11 years and love anything to do with water - swimming, kayaking, canoeing. You may even catch me doing water aerobics from time to time. Because of camp, I have learned to love travelling and found a new life path to become a nurse.  I am looking forward to return to a place that has given me so much and to give back. Camp has given me confidence and enthusiasm in life that I couldn't imagine and I am returning so I can make the positive influence camp has had on me onto others at camp. Camp has the ability to really make a positive influence on a camper’s life - not just in the short term but the long term. It has the ability to build confidence, self-esteem and many other attributes that allow people to grow. The positive influence of camp that it has made on people’s lives is amazing. It allows them to learn new skills at camp and transfer them into the world outside of camp.

Support Director

Hey all! I'm Bethan (from Wales) and I'm so super excited to be returning to camp Howe for my 6th year! I'll be joined by my husband (Darran) and 3 children, grace (15), Minnie (10) and Woody (7). I can't explain how excited I am for this opportunity for my family (they're pretty excited too). I'm a trained Behavioral therapist, currently specializing in sleep. My absolute favorite parts of camp are songs, campfire, evening program, the dance .......hhhhm, you get the picture. Camp Howe is home. Part of me stayed there after my first season, and I don't think it'll ever leave. I've had some of the most amazing times of my life there and some of the hardest, and have learnt lessons from both. Camp Howe challenges, encourages, exhausts, creates unbreakable bonds. I have chosen to apply to Camp Howe because it makes me strive to be better in every sense, I want my children to experience the magic of  Camp Howe.

Nora

Assistant Director

Hi all! My name is Nora, I'm from Boston, MA, and this is my 15th year at Camp Howe! Camp is my second home, and I missed the wonderful community we build there so much last summer - so I can't wait for camp to fill up with new and old faces and lots of laughter and wacky hijinks in 2021! Currently, I'm splitting my time between jobs at an outdoor preschool and at a bakery, two jobs that are almost (but not quite) as fun as working at camp. I know firsthand that a well-run camp can give children not only a few weeks of fun, but also the opportunity to develop new skills, form lasting friendships, gain exposure to cultures and people different from themselves, and have a place where they can feel safe and comfortable to be themselves, make mistakes, and grow as people. I believe strongly in the values of Camp Howe and the great potential we have for doing good in the lives of our campers. I am so happy to be returning for summer 2021 as one of the assistant directors, and working with the rest of our amazing leadership team to make camp happen!

Rose

Assistant Director

Hi everyone! I'm very excited to be returning for my 9th summer at Camp Howe! When I'm not at camp you can find me exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains near my home, baking, and reading. I've worked in public and private schools as a behavior support specialist and mental health worker. I also spend a lot of time volunteering, mostly centered on young families, doing everything from mentoring new mothers with WIC to teaching a homeschool art class. Our camp motto is "To make the best better" and it's something I keep at the forefront of my mind. I truly believe Camp Howe is one of the very best camps out there and I'm honored to be part of the amazing team gathered to continue making it even better.
